The final step involves conversion of the carboxylic acid to the carbamoyl methyl ester using a coupling reagent such as dicyclohexylcarbodiimide (DCC) and N-hydroxysuccinimide (NHS), followed by deprotection of the ester with a base such as sodium hydroxide.
